Created in 1979, Air Inuit was the first airline to be owned by Inuit. Today, it remains the principal carrier in Nunavik. Air Inuit offers, by turboprop Dash 8, a daily service from Montreal to most communities of the Hudson Coast, as well as Kuujjuaq and the communities of the Ungava Coast on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Montreal, Quebec City and Shefferville, and from Sept-Iles and Wabush on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, its new Boeing 737 also offers direct flights between Montreal and Puvirnituq. Air Inuit also connects Nunavik's villages on a regular basis, whether by Dash 8, HS-748 or with smaller planes such as its Twin Otters and King Air and deliverers cargo with its HS-748 fleet.
As the region is without means of ground transportation, Air Inuit provides essential scheduled, charter, cargo and emergency transportation for the region, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.
